“A pianist you want to hear no matter what he performs” – The New York Times
Jeremy Denk, one of America's foremost pianists, is giving his debut recital in Hong Kong! "Piquant, meaningful programmes have always been a hallmark of Jeremy Denk’s recitals" reviewed The Guardian. Being the winner of the MacArthur ‘Genius’ Fellowship and the Avery Fisher Prize, Denk strives to enliven the ‘standard’ classical concert experience into thought-provoking intellectual dialogues between musical titans. Join us in this journey of profundity – enjoy the wisdom and knowledge, truths and mysteries, imagination and interpretation – that the composers and Denk offer!
Jeremy Denk performs extensively worldwide, and has collaborated with first-class orchestras, including Chicago Symphony, New York Philharmonic, and Los Angeles Philharmonic. Denk is also frequently invited to play at Carnegie Hall, including solo recitals in the 'Keyboard Virtuosos' series, which is where the world's most famous pianists are featured (such as András Schiff, Maurizio Pollini, Mitsuko Uchida). In his Hong Kong debut, Denk will present a fascinating programme that includes Liszt’s transcription of Beethoven’s song cycle An die ferne Geliebte (To the Distant Beloved), amongst other piano works by Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann, and Prokofiev.
As a concert pianist who is eloquent both with musical notes and words, Denk has impressed many not only through his compelling musical interpretations, but also with his witty, insightful contributions on The New Yorker, The New Republic, The Guardian, and The New York Times Book Review. To accompany the performance, there will be a ‘Music in Words’ talk a day before the recital, with dialogues between Jeremy Denk and Prof. Daniel Chua, the Chairperson of HKU Music Department. Free admission – separate registration required at www.muse.hku.hk.
