continues collaboration in a new Series of Contemporary Asian Art Seminars
10 Apr 2018
Christie’s Education and the University of Hong Kong’s Faculty of Arts- two leading institutions in the art world, are delighted to announce their continued collaboration by offering the “Contemporary Asian Art: An Insider’s View” series of seminars from 14 – 18 May 2018. Registration is now open.
Now in its third successful year, this five-day program is targeted at those who wish to begin or deepen their engagement with the art world, whether through collecting or developing careers in the field. The seminars are led by renowned experts in the field, with the curriculum aiming to give a broad spectrum of perspectives on Asian contemporary art, and to foster deeper understanding of the dynamics of markets and institutions. The engaging program is designed to be hands-on and interactive, exposing students first hand to original works of art, various art spaces and industry insiders.
Glen Hardwick-Bruce, Programme Director, Continuing Education, Christie’s Education London
“As the art world becomes increasingly global, it is vital to be attuned to the ever-changing landscapes and markets in which art dwells. Hong Kong continues to grow as a pivotal location for the cultivation and expansion of the Asian art scene and this current mood demands increased attention to both connoisseurship and the principle functions of the art world. This is the case not only in Asia but within the context of the wider art playing-field. This program will address both of these elements with a focus on Contemporary Asian Art through the use of seminars, group discussions and exclusive visits to collections. Those attending the course will gain a much greater knowledge and awareness of art works and the art world infrastructure, and will become confident and well equipped in this exciting arena.”
Yeewan Koon, Associate Professor, the Department of Fine Arts, the University of Hong Kong
“A common question often asked is: What is good art? Although there are no clear answers, there are steps for those who want to learn how to look at art in an informed manner. In this program, we provide an introduction to modern and contemporary Asian art, fundamental learning tools including how to look, describe and write about artworks, and the different cultural contexts that have shaped art practices in the region.”
