Pierre-Simon de Laplace (1749-1827) was a French astronomer and mathematician.
Today he is most remembered for his development of Newtonian mechanics
into the hardest physical determinism. But also for his important work
on probability. Laplace considered, however, that the need to make statements
about probability came from our lack of knowledge, rather than from the
