Description Black greyish or yellowish with large dark brown spots and blotches.
Ventrals whitish.
Body long and slender, prominently ridged, with a row of enlarged vertebral scales.
Head triangular with an arrow-shaped marking above.
Upper jaw with two enlarged teeth at the back; Labials light-coloured.
Tail long and thin. Scale smooth and obliquely shaped.
Mildly venomous, not dangerous to humans.
Habitat

Shrubland, woodland and grassland.
Can climb tree, but usually seen on low bushes or on the ground;.
Hides under rocks and other debris during the day.

Behaviour Strictly Nocturnal. Temperament varies from vicious to docile.
If disturbed, body bends to S shape to prepare to attack.
Diet Lizards, especially geckoes, also take birds.
Reproduction Lays 4 - 7 eggs in summer.
Distribution Widely distributed in Hong Kong, but uncommon.
Occurs in East India, Burma, China, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia Vietnam and Indonesia.
