Thirteen HKU academics were identified as being among the top 1% in their field in Clarivate Analytics’ list of ‘Highly Cited Researchers 2019’. Inclusion in the list is based on producing multiple highly-cited papers that rank in the top 1% by citations in their field during the year, and thus have significant impact in their respective fields of study. The cross-field category is to acknowledge researchers who are recognised as leaders in more than one field.

HKU Faculty of Education wins an Education “Oscar” at the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Reimagine Education Awards
The Experiential Learning (EL) team from the Faculty of Education (the Faculty) at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) has won the Gold Award 2020 in the Presence Learning and Teaching Category at the QS Reimagine Education Awards: known as the “Oscars” of Education. The EL team comprising Dr Gary Harfitt, Associate Dean (Learning & Teaching); Ms Jessie Chow, Lecturer, Academic Unit of Teacher Education and Learning Leadership; and Ms Ivy Chung, Executive Officer from the Faculty, won the award for the project “Nurturing a twenty-first century teaching force through community-based experiential education”.
Three HKU researchers elected Innovators Under 35 for the Asia Pacific Region by MIT Technology Review
Three researchers at the Faculty of Engineering of the University are among the 20 Innovators Under 35 selected for the Asia Pacific Region by MIT Technology Review, a prestigious global news media on important new technologies under the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The 2020 regional awardees were selected from a pool of 200 exceptional candidates. They are considered to be trailblazers in their fields and leaders of the next generation of technological breakthroughs. Their work includes applications in agriculture, artificial intelligence, biomedicine, construction, energy, new materials, robotics, and water.

HKU education scholar Professor Frederick Leung elected Honorary Member of the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA)
Professor Frederick Leung, Dean of the Graduate School and Chair Professor and Kintoy Professor in Mathematics Education, Faculty of Education, the University of Hong Kong (HKU), has been elected an Honorary Member of the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) at the Association's General Assembly Meeting held in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Professor Leung is the first Asian recipient of this honour.
IEA is the largest international cooperation of national research institutions, governmental research agencies, scholars, and analysts working to research, understand, and improve education worldwide.
