Faculty's Award for Teaching Excellence 2008-2009

Dr Anderson On Lam Wong, School of Biological Sciences
Dr WONG joined The University of Hong Kong as an Assistant Professor in 1996 and promoted to Associate Professor in 2003. During his appointment at The University of Hong Kong, he also served as the adjunct researcher in National Institute of Child Health & Development in USA, guest professor in the GuangDong Dayabay Fishery Development Center and visiting professor in the School of Life Sciences, Zhongshan University, Guangzhou.
About his teaching duties, he is in charge of the courses on animal physiology, biotechnology, reproduction and developmental biology. In 2002, he received the "Honourable Mention Award" by the Academic Council of HKU for his organization of "One-Day Symposium for Selected Topics of Animal Physiology", which was the first of its kind among the biology departments using a symposium format for undergraduate teaching.
Regarding his research, he is a comparative endocrinologist by training and his works focus on endocrine regulation & signal transduction mechanisms for growth hormone release & synthesis in fish models. He is currently serving in the editorial broad of "The Open Physiology Journal" and as a special editor for the journal "General & Comparative Endocrinology".
Award for Service Contribution 2008-2009

Dr Stephen Brian Pointing, School of Biological Sciences
Dr POINTING was appointed as a Research Assistant Professor at HKU in 1998. He became part of Faculty in 2001 and has since built a significant presence in research, teaching and service at the university. His excellence in research has been recognized with publications in leading journals such as PNAS, and he was awarded the University's inaugural Outstanding Teaching Award in 2008.
Dr Pointing has been involved at the highest level in curriculum development both for the new 4-year BSc Science curriculum and the Common Core Curriculum. He has also been a highly active member of working groups and committees related to formation and development of the School of Biological Sciences.
A major part of his service to the Faculty has been involvement in recruitment of mainland students. Dr Pointing has also been pro-active in many outreach activities including public lectures and television appearances designed to enhance visibility of the Faculty within Hong Kong and overseas.
