The Creative Learning and Hong
Kong Culture and Society Project (CLHKCSP), funded by Teaching
Development Grant, UGC and The University of Hong Kong,
began in September 1999 and serves as a sub-division of
the Hong Kong
Culture and Society Programme (HKCSP). It seeks
to offer a new direction in the teaching and learning of
Hong Kong culture and society by bringing scholars from
around the world to form a network and community for developing
innovative teaching programmes. As Hong Kong has entered
a new age and a new phase in its development, it is time
for the local society to study Hong Kong history and society
seriously and ask questions about the roles that Hong Kong
has played in the past and will play in the future. A deeper
and multi-faceted understanding of Hong Kong culture and
society is indispensable for the local community in general,
and university undergraduates and postgraduates in specific,
who in turn, undertake the role of teaching our younger
generation. To enhance the teaching and learning quality
for young scholars and potential teachers, we aim at creating
a long-term network and community of scholars and teachers
to pursue and stimulate interests in Hong Kong studies.
We believe that sustained and coordinated inter-disciplinary
and inter-institutional collaboration is essential for creating
a more innovative teaching programme for enhancing general
education in Hong Kong. To achieve these aims, we are preparing
innovative learning packages that fully utilizes multimedia
technology. Through these, we hope to make Hong Kong culture
and society an exciting and illuminating programme for teachers
and students alike.
This creative website Cyber Culture Express
is also designed for long-term use. Subsequent to the publication
of a series of textbook
readers on Hong Kong studies, it aims at providing
information on teaching materials, research, hyperlinks,
and directories on various fields such as literature, history,
social and urban studies, cultural studies, and other subjects
of general education. It is expected that study guide materials,
including further readings and activities, can facilitate
the learning of Hong Kong culture and society. This website
will help instigate a self-learning approach, in which students
can have the advantage of having queries answered immediately,
while responding to visual as well as written materials
in a creative manner.
