The East-West Alliance is an international network of Asian and Western medical research faculties initiated by the HKU Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine. The Alliance aims to develop high-impact research and educational projects. The initial focus is to establish a global network which can meet the challenges of aging populations and emerging infections that threaten world health. Major members of the Alliance includes:

• Stanford University

At its first planning meeting held in Hong Kong on April 2-3, 2006, Alliance members identified four key areas of strategic partnership, viz. cancer and stem cell, infection and immunology, aging and imaging, and knowledge transfer and translation.

The first international conference of the Alliance will be held in the Medical Faculty of The University of Hong Kong on April 14-15, 2007. The main themes of this East-West Alliance Meeting will be on Cancer and Infection.
