Welcome to the homepage of the IUCN
Groupers and Wrasses Specialist Group (SG), one of more than 120 specialist
groups that make up the IUCN's Species Survival Commission. Each SG is made up
of experts who voluntarily work together to assess threats and levels of
exploitation for species covered
by their group. Taken together, these threats are then evaluated based on a well-established set of criteria
to create ICUN species assessments. Assessments appear
in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species which is updated annually. The SGs
also
develop Action Plans and initiate activities to increase awareness of and reduce
risks to threatened species.
Here, you will find information on the work of the
Grouper and Wrasse SG and the species assessment process, as well as general
background material on groupers and wrasses and links to other sites that might
be of interest.
