Inauguration of HKU Alumni Network of Japan Oct 15, 2005

Over 40 alumni in Japan gathered for the first time on Oct 15, 2005 (Saturday) in the Tokyo ANA Hotel. Over 90% of them were native Japanese who studied in HKU for degrees or as exchange students, ranging from the 70s to the 2000s.

Mr Ho Kwok-Ying (BA1984), the convenor who started it all, greeted fellow alumni in English and Japanese. University representatives included Prof. KM Cheng (Senior Advisor to Vice-Chancellor), Ms Bernadette Tsui (Director, Development & Alumni Affairs) and Ms Monica Wong (Manager, Development & Alumni Affairs).

The alumni seized every single minute to meet new friends and catch up with old ones. Some are thrilled to practice their Putonghua and/or Cantonese again. Hall-mates from different years finally met up with each other. Their professions range from university professors, traders, bankers, to consultants and freelancer. Some still have strong ties with Hong Kong because of work, many younger exchange students still visits their Hall-mates in HK frequently and vice versa. One thing is common: The HKU experience was unforgettable.
