160TH CONGREGATION
OF
THE UNIVERSITY OF HONG KONG
|
The Congregation of the University of Hong Kong will be held
on Thursday, November 30. Reporters and photographers are cordially
invited to cover the event. Details as follows:
Date: November 30, 2000 (Thursday)
Time: 2:30pm
Venue: Hong Kong Coliseum, Hung Hom, Kowloon
The Pro-Chancellor of the University, Dr the Hon Ti-liang Yang,
will preside over the Congregation and the Vice-Chancellor,
Professor Ian Davies, will address the assembly. This year 1,535
graduands will be awarded postgraduate degrees, including 216
at the doctoral level and 1,319 at the master level. 2,928 graduands
will receive bachelor degrees.
This year the Congregation will be broadcast live to Fudan University,
in Shanghai, where the first batch of graduates from the IMBA
programme will be able to view the ceremony and - mostly importantly
- participate during the conferment of the degree. The image
from Shanghai will be transmitted to the Hong Kong Coliseum
so that other graduands in the Coliseum can share in the joy
of the IMBA graduands in Shanghai.
The MBA (International) Programme, which is administered jointly
with the School of Management of Fudan University, is based
in Shanghai. This two-year part-time programme is a pioneering
and innovative initiative to develop business education in mainland
China. The programme has been approved by the Academic Degree
Office of the National Council of China.
Reporters and photographers should arrive at the Coliseum 15
minutes before the start of the Congregation and go to the Reception
Counter next to the Box Office. Please bring your name card
or pass for identification at the entrance. While the Congregation
is in progress, please refrain from leaving the Coliseum. Photographers
are reminded to bring their long lenses. For further enquiries,
please contact Miss Polo Leung at HKU's External Relations Office
