JUSCO requires applicants to submit a covering letter, resume and company's application form. Here are some tips to help you prepare your application.

General guidelines in completing application forms

- follow the instruction set out by the company e.g. not to exceed word limit
- be error free
- legible handwriting
- use appropriate language and structure
- show clarity of thoughts

Tips on JUSCO application form

The questions that you are being asked in the application form are:

Q1. Please suggest some brand-new ideas for ONE of the following areas, as well as future development of our company to practice this year's slogan "Towards 15th Anniversary"?
- Quality Service/Products
- Business Strategy
- Store Management
- Operation

(around 200 words)

Tips:

First, choose a topic in which you have the best knowledge or experience. Get to know about the current situation of that specific area at JUSCO. Try to be creative and suggest some ideas which have not been used at JUSCO or other local department stores. Based on the slogan "Towards 15th Anniversary", suggest some business ideas, with short term and long term goals clearly defined.

e.g. By its 15th anniversary, JUSCO is aiming to expand its market share to xx%. With the existing development plans, I would like to suggest the following strategies:

Idea 1 is to do .... and ....... so that .....

Q2. Three-year intensive Management Trainee program generally described as follows:
- First year: first 3 months - general operation training at Store after probation - supervisory training at Store
- Second year: buying & operational training in Japan JUSCO
- Third year: buying/operational supervisory training in Hong Kong JUSCO

What do you expect in your learning prospect through this program? (around 200 words)

Tips:

A good answer requires a fair understanding of the job duties, the company and the MT program. Based on the information given, list the job-related and soft skills that you expect to develop in this 3-year training programme. Go on to say what contribution you can make to the company after 3 years with such experience and skills.

You should also find out which parts of the job, business area and company philosophy inspire or interest you most. Tell the recruiter briefly how these relate to your own career objectives and self development in a concise manner.

Q3. (In Chinese)
i)What are the characteristics of retailing industry (when compared with others)?
ii)What should a MT in JUSCO possess so that he/she can match such characteristics?
iii) If your downlines cannot match such characteristics, what would you do?

Tips:

To answer Q i and ii, you need to do a thorough research to find out the retail industry and the occupation. Compare Retailing with other major business industries such as banking, accounting, merchandising...etc. There is no need for you to write an in depth report on the comparison of all industries. What you need to do is to summarise the features of the retail industry e.g. long opening hours; 7 days a week...etc. Visit a JUSCO store to observe the characteristics of the people and the Store itself.

As for the third question in Q3, the employer would like to see your problem solving skill. You need to view the problem with a helicopter view by identifying the cause, e.g. why is there a mismatch? You have to suggest a few sensible options and then recommend one solution with justification.
