Alumni Indoor Soccer (27 June 2004 Sunday)
想 知 你 隻 腳 值 幾 多 萬 磅, 請 到 Action Indoor Sports Center![]()
The function was held on 27th of June 2004 Sunday 2:30pm-5:30pm at Thornleigh Action Indoor Center. There were four teams competing Medi, Science United Engineering and Youth. Wearing the Brazilian jersey, Science played with great skill and tactics. In fact they scored the highest number of goals at 10 in three matches. Peter Cheung, father of Jason, arrived in time from HK to join the Medi team. He scored and helped the team to get the Champion. The Youth team had a new finding of Ming Fan this year. Partnering with captain Jason, they enticingly dribbled and shot with great strength. We also welcomed Larry Shek to play for the Engineering team. Although he hasn t played soccer for decades, he covered most of the field with endless energy. Together with Keith Chow, Sze Cheng, Simon Fan, Bill Ho and Steel Goalie Anthony Ho, they made their team hardest to beat in the whole tournament. The event arose to a climax having Science United to face They have to score three net goals in order to beat the Medi Team by goal difference. The mothers leaded by Ivy Chung cheered to their sons as to avoid conceding goals, which in turn help their fathers Medi team. The mothers went mad when Jason scored the equalizer that looked set to bring their fathers the trophy. Yet the mighty Brazilians carried on without frustration. They banged in two more goals later and still have minutes to go. So tantalizing, they kept on shoooooooting from different angles. Yet the Youth team goalie, Ronald, made breathless saves which include a penalty. His performance later earned him the best Goalie of the event. The ending score was 3-1, Science way, which is one-goal short to lift them the Champion. This year we have a special guest, Peter Cheng (Cheng Yun Yue), who is a household name in Hong Kong soccer history. Many soccer fans couldn t forget the night he captained the HK team to play against North Korean in the seventies in a World Cup qualifying match. They broke the soccer record of having penalty shootouts more than 20! Peter stayed with us throughout the game and presented the trophies to the teams. Many players were so eager to take photo with him afterwards. In the aftermatch dinner, the prize winners were announced. Finally, we wish a quick recovery to Tim Chung s ankle. His fighting spirit was helpful in their team during their remaining matches. We also thank Raymond Lun, CC Cheung, Dennis Wan to referee the matches, Helen Wan to bring in delicious snack, and many mothers for cheering and helping. HKU Alumni Indoor Soccer report of year 2000

Champion team Golden Boot Award - Ernest Tam
The function was held on 22nd of October 2000 Sunday 3:00-5:00pm at Thornleigh Action Indoor Center. There are 15 senior players, 4 children players and unexpectedly 8 family members and friends turning up to cheer the teams. The senior games were played by four teams in a knock-out format. Each team consists of four players and each game last for 20 minutes with a 3 minutes break in the middle. At large, the games were full of fun. Most players felt exhausting because they have to run nearly non-stop. Yet it was a rare opportunity for some players to prove to their wife how fit they still are at their age. Like Dr KF Man and Sze Cheng, they played 3 games. All players showed their resolutions in sportsmanship. Appreciation was sent to Tim Chung for his hard working. He got muscle-contraction at the end of the final game after he knew his team got the Champion. Best scorer did not fell into the best team. Ernest Tam scored seven times in a game and got the golden boot award. In between the senior games a children game was held. The kids showed immense interest in the game, especially when they played with their dads. YT Ng turned out to be the best referee for the games. He seemed enjoying it more than ball kicking.
Thanks to Anthony Ho, Matthew Poon for organising the game. A special thank, we wouldn t forget, was given to those mommies and members who did not play, but just cheered. They include Anthony and Sunny Au, Ivy Chung, Helen Tang, Agnes Ho, Pauline Fan, Sonia Leung, Joyce Ng. Without their cheering the game wouldn t have such a good atmosphere.
