Vice-Chancellor Professor Lap-Chee Tsui invited Mr Lawrence Fung Siu-por and Mrs Alexandra Fung Lee Suk-wai to plant azalea shrubs in the garden of University Lodge.

The Azalea (1972) Endowment Fund was established in 2006 by Mr Lawrence Fung Siu-por
馮紹波(BSocSc, 1972) and Mrs Alexandra Fung Lee Suk-wai 馮李淑慧(BSocSc, 1972), with a donation of 10 percent shares in the issued share capital of Hong Kong Economic Times Holdings Limited, to support university projects that benefit the community and support the University in achieving its Centenary Vision.

"We have received so much and it's time we gave back to society. We want to call it the 'Azalea (1972) Endowment Fund' because, during our university days, when the azaleas started to bloom it was the nerve-wrecking time of studying for examinations. We also want to include '1972' as it was the year of our graduation," said Mr Fung.

The announcement was made on August 8, 2006 at University Lodge where azalea shrubs were planted in the Lodge's garden, an act that symbolised the blossoming of the Azalea (1972) Endowment Fund and the culture of alumni giving.
